Homemade New York Style Pizza

I followed three different recipes for this pizza. I used the dough and pizza (cheese) recipe from a Food Network magazine. I used the sauce recipe from America’s Test Kitchen The Complete Plant Based Cookbook. I am always interested in trying new recipes to see if I can find the most ideal recipe for something!

To start, I made the dough so that it had enough time to rise. This dough was made from yeast, water, bread flour, all purpose flour, sugar, salt, and oil. I kneaded it together until it was beautifully smooth and let it rise for about 2 hours (until it doubled in size). While it was rising, I prepared all of my other essentials for pizza night. This included shredding mozzarella cheese, slicing fresh mozzarella cheese, grating parmesan cheese, and chopping basil. The recipe for the New York style did not call for basil, but I had to include it because basil is my all-time favorite pizza topping.

When I made the pizza with broccoli and sun-dried tomatoes, I made a simple pizza sauce. I really loved it, so I wanted to make it again for this New York style pizza. The recipe uses whole canned tomatoes, olive oil, garlic, red wine vinegar, oregano, salt, and pepper. This combination of flavors creates a slightly sweet, but also savory tomato sauce.

Making pizza at home is just so fun! The options are just endless. Any topping can go on a pizza and each person has the ability to personalize their pizza. I went with just a cheese pizza and Jacob decided to add some pepperoni to his pizza!
