Cream Puffs

I have been dreaming of cream puffs for weeks! When I got out of work, I knew exactly what I had to do. I had to make cream puffs. I was expecting the process to be a lot harder than it was. I think it is important to focus on each step, but making cream puffs isn’t as hard as you think.

I found this great recipe on Natasha’s Kitchen Blog (link below). She does a great job of laying out all of the details needed to make cream puffs. To make the pastry, I combined water, whole milk, butter, sugar, and salt together in a medium pot on the stove. Once that started to come to a boil, I removed it from the heat and stirred in the flour. I put it back on the stove for two more minutes to let it cook a little longer. I transferred the mixture to my stand mixer and began to beat the dough. I let this go for a couple minutes before adding in the eggs one at a time. It is important to do this one at a time! Once my dough came together, I piped circles onto a baking sheet and baked them in the oven. As the cream puffs were cooling, I made the whipped cream to fill them. I beat together whipping cream, sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks started to form. I filled my cream puffs by pushing a whole into the side and filling with whipped cream until the tip started to push out of the side of the cream puff (Natasha does a great job of explaining). I showered them with powdered sugar and then served them!

One thing that made this process easier is that I printed out a sheet of circles that had a 1.5’’ diameter to pipe the cream puffs on. I felt this made it a lot easier for me to visually see how big each cream puff needed to be. This helped me be consistent throughout the batch. I would recommend doing this or using a silicon mat with circles already on them.

The puffs themselves were delicious. The cream was delicious. The whole thing was just delicious! I really enjoyed making them and I will be making them again! These can also be frozen, so if the batch makes too many, pop them in the freezer for a later date!
