Muhammara AND Pita Chips (Recipe #152, #153)
I love having chips and dip! This recipe for muhammara may need to become my replacement for traditional chips and dip. Before getting the Vegan for Everybody cookbook, I had never heard of muhammara. The cookbook explains how it is a Middle Eastern red pepper and walnut dip.
Muhammara is made from roasted red peppers, walnuts, wheat crackers, lemon juice, olive oil, molasses, sugar, salt, cumin, cayenne, and topped with parsley. Basically, all of the ingredients are blended together and then put into the fridge to rest. The recipe states to bring the dip out of the fridge about a half hour before serving. The flavors from all of the components work really well together to bring a delicious dip.
There is also a recipe for pita chips paired with the muhammara. This recipe uses store bought pita bread. I cut open the bread, brushed it with oil, and sprinkled it with salt. I baked them in the oven until they were golden brown and I served them warm. The recipe was super easy. I loved how thin and crispy they turned out!
This dip was super delicious paired with the pita chips. I really enjoyed it and I would make it again. The description for this recipe explains how versatile it is. I could see this being good with pasta, veggies, or bread. It had the perfect combination of flavors and a great texture. I recommend trying it!
Taste: 10/10 for the muhammara AND 10/10 for the pita chips
Level of difficulty: 1/5
Notes for next time: This was delicious! I would make this again!
