Christmas Crack (I know it sounds weird, but trust me)
I have recently become obsessed with caramel. Now, add chocolate to the caramel and a little bit of salt. The combination creates this delicious and irresistible treat! Enough said, so let’s get to the recipe!
Ingredients:
40 saltine crackers
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups chocolate chips
½ tbsp coarse salt (or flakey salt)
Optional toppings: sprinkles ot pretzels (if you use pretzels, omit the salt)
Directions:
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Line the saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add the butter and brown sugar. Once it has come to a simmer, let it simmer for 5 minutes.
Remove the pan from heat and pour over the saltine crackers. Quickly, spread the caramel-like mixture across the saltine crackers.
Place the tray in the oven for 5-10 minutes until it starts to bubble.
Once removed from the oven, let cool for a minute. Add chocolate chips on top and let them sit for a minute. Then, spread the chocolate across the crackers. Add the salt (and any additional topping if desired).
Let cool completely. Break into pieces and enjoy!
