Apple Jelly
There are so many incredible fruits and vegetables that are in season in fall. There are so many types of apples that are available. The best part is that you can go and pick your own apples from lots of different orchards. One of the things that I wanted to make from all of the apples that I picked was apple jelly!
Jelly is a lot easier than you would think, but it is quite time consuming. I bought Sure Jell Pectin to help my jelly set and inside the package there are directions. I just followed the provided directions for the apple jelly. I had to start by preparing the juice. Basically, I simmered chopped apples in water. I put them in the blender. Then, I pushed it through a fine mesh strainer to get all of the juice out and leave the pulp behind. Once I had the juice prepared, I could begin simmering it and adding the pectin. When it came to a rolling boil, I added in sugar and constantly stirred it until it came to a boil again. I only boiled it for a minute and then took it off the heat. I put it into my prepared jars and processed them in a canner for 10 minutes.
One of the biggest tips that I can share is to prepare your workspace. Just like cooking any other food, you need to have a prepared workspace. This involves measuring out your sugar ahead of time, preparing your jars while the jelly is cooking, and having out all of the necessary tools. This will make preparing the jelly much easier.
The apple jelly turned out just delicious and it had the perfect consistency!
Taste: 10/10!
Level of difficulty: 2/5--This was my first time making it on my own. I know that it will be easier next time.
Notes for next time: I loved making this!
