Apple Butter (In the Crockpot!)
Oh the season of apples! How lovely! I came across this recipe for apple butter after not knowing what to do with all of the apples I picked. This recipe was super easy and it only takes a few ingredients! This recipe does use a lot of apples, but they will cook down a lot!
This apple butter does take a long time to cook in the crockpot. I started this after work one evening and let it go all night. When I woke up in the morning, it was the perfect consistency, so I processed it in a blender and canned the mixture. In the end, this filled 3 20oz canning jars for me. I did process this apple butter in a canner, but this can also be kept in the fridge for a couple weeks or be put into the freezer.
Apple Butter (In the Crockpot!)
Ingredients:
8 cups apples (diced)
2 ¾ cup brown sugar
2 ¾ tsp cinnamon
⅛ tsp nutmeg
1 tbsp lemon juice
¼ tsp salt
Directions:
Wash and dice apples. Place half of the apples in the crockpot. Add in the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and salt. Stir together. Add in the remaining apples and stir once again. (The crockpot will be very full!)
Turn the slow cooker on high until the mixture starts to bubble and cook (this will take about 4-5 hours). Turn the crockpot to low and let cook for about 10-12 hours. Stir a handful of times.
Start checking the slow cooker at about 10 hours. Once the mixture is at your desired consistency, put it into a blender and blend until there is an even consistency.

Level of difficulty: 2/5
Notes for next time: This was a great way to use a lot of apples!
