Oat Milk
I love the idea of being able to make my own plant based milk at home in my own blender. This recipe for oat milk was found on the Minimalist Baker website (link below). I adjusted it slightly by using maple syrup in the recipe. Making this at home gives you complete control over what goes into it, so if you want it sweeter make it sweeter. If you want your milk flavored, try almond extract or adding cocoa powder.
Try oat milk in baked goods, smoothies, or on the side of some cookies!
Oat Milk
Servings: 4 cups
Ingredients:
1 cup of rolled oats
4 cups of water
1 pinch of salt
1-2 tbsp maple syrup
½ tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
Add all of the ingredients to the blender and blend for about 30 seconds. Taste and adjust salt/maple syrup to your liking.
Place a cheese cloth over a colander in a large bowl. Pour oat milk into cheese cloth and strain. Pour into a sealed container in the fridge for up to about five days.
*I found it easiest to put the cheese cloth over a colander, but that is not necessary.
Taste: 8/10-- It tasted like I expected it to taste. It worked well in the three-grain breakfast porridge. I would like this a bit creamier and possibly thicker.
Level of difficulty: 1/5
Notes for next time: Make the oat milk with dates instead of maple syrup!
