Guacamole with Habanero and Mango (Recipe #15)
I have to start by saying that I did not use a habanero in this recipe. I used a jalapeno instead because I had one that needed to be used. I thought this was a fair substitution and that it did not take away from the dish. I loved this guacamole! The spicy flavor from the jalapeno and the sweetness from the mango was all tied together by the creamy avocado. This is overall a great recipe!
This recipe called for a portion of the avocado to be mashed with cilantro, one habanero pepper, onion, lime juice, garlic, salt and cumin. The other portion of avocado was left into ½ inch pieces and stirred into the mash with ¼ inch mango pieces. I liked the smoothness from the mashed avocado, but I also liked the chunks of avocado. I felt the pieces of avocado complemented the pieces of mango. The jalapeno was a great addition to add a little bit of spice in some of the bites. I think next time I might try adding peppers to have a guacamole that is a little more spicier than this version.
My husband and I ate this as a side dish with our lunch. We enjoyed it with tortilla chips! I can see this being a great party dish alongside some homemade salsa, black bean dip, and a corn dip--a Mexican inspired fiesta!
Taste: 10/10
Level of difficulty: 1/5--Easy and quick!
Notes for next time: Try habanero! Maybe two peppers?
