Fruit Salad (Easy and Quick! Great Side)
Fruit is just so refreshing! There is nothing that I like more than a fruit salad on a hot summer day. A fruit salad is the perfect side to any meal! It is also the perfect dish to bring to a family gathering or cookout.
I do a super simple version of a fruit salad that I keep coming back to. I choose a few cans of mixed fruit (tropical fruit is great) and drain them (always reserve the liquid). I cut up some fresh fruit and mix the two together. I typically choose to cut up some bananas and apples. I have used strawberries and blueberries in the past. The decision is up to you! I do know that some people like to serve it mixed with cool whip or cool whip on the side. I like to stick with just the fruit (but the cool whip is great too!).
I choose to use canned fruit because I love the variety that it brings to the dish. I also like to reserve the liquid in the cans to use in smoothies! I prefer to buy the fruit in juice rather than in syrup because there is a lot of sugar in the syrup. The juice and syrup both work well in smoothies. I love to use the juice in a green smoothie with spinach, frozen pineapple, and bananas.
