Episode 5: Meal Planning
Every Thursday night, I make it a goal to plan out my meals for the following week. Then, I go shopping on Friday night to pick up everything I need to be set for the week ahead. Meal planning can be done on any day or any time. I find that this schedule works best for me!
I start by making a grid like the one I included below. I always plan my meals for one week. I know some people like to do it for two weeks at a time, but I find it works best for me to work one week at a time. It is just a simple grid that shows the seven days of the week and has four rows. I use one row for breakfast, one for lunch, one for dinner, and one for snack. This allows me to visually see and control my diets the way I want it to be.
Once I have my grid out, I grab all of my cookbooks and open Pinterest. I start by finding things that I want to eat and begin filling out the grid. It is important to take into consideration how many portion sizes that a meal makes so you know how many days/meals to plan it for. For example, I have a recipe that serves 2 for black bean burgers. I am only going to fill out one box with black bean burgers because I am meal planning for my husband and myself. If a recipe serves 4, then I would fill out two boxes.
As I am going through the recipes, I keep a shopping list next to me so that I can add to it.
