REVIEW-Vegan for Everybody by America’s Test Kitchen
After 6 months, I have finally made every single recipe in the Vegan for Everybody cookbook! Oh, what a journey it has been! Overall, I have loved the cookbook and I highly recommend it.
The cookbook had incredible recipes and a great amount of detail. It showcased a variety of recipes including breakfast food, soups/salads, desserts, and more. It introduced how to make your own almond milk and your own yogurt. It introduced homemade versions of nut butters and fish sauce. It also housed variations of the main recipes to give you more ideas of how to take one dish and change it up a little bit. However, there was one thing that I did not like about the cookbook. Some of the ingredients that were called for were very difficult to find if I could even find them. I do recall a handful of things that I could not find at all, so I substituted with something that I thought was similar.
Thinking back on all of the recipes that I made, I would like to note a few that stood out to me. I would have to say that the top three recipes from the cookbook are the buffalo cauliflower bites, the chocolate chip cookies, and the pizza dough. I would also like to note that I loved the scone recipes, the pie crust, the polenta fries, the spicy rice noodle bowl, and the portobello burger. I was very happy with so many of the recipes from the cookbook! There were only a handful of recipes that I personally did not enjoy and would not make again.
Throughout the whole time of cooking through Vegan for Everybody, I have learned so much. I cooked with produce that I had never used before. I tried spices that I never thought to use. I experimented with aquafaba, tofu, tempeh, and seitan. I loved every second of trying these new recipes. If you are looking to add more plants into your diet, limit animal products, or just want to try new foods, I highly recommend this cookbook. It is concise, easy to understand, straightforward, and holds a lot of really great ideas. I am really glad that I bought this cookbook to give it a try. I would recommend this book to everyone and anyone!
